Britney Spears remains close with ex-boyfriend Justin Timberlake — his music, that is.
In an interview with USA Today, the singer reveals that Timberlake is one of the artists from whom she draws inspiration.
“This generation is hungry for new sounds. Bruno Mars is so different and fresh, and Justin Timberlake is, too,” Spears tells the paper.
She continues, “It’s inspiring for me, and it makes people eager to listen to music, which helps everyone.”
Spears also gave props to Beyoncé, calling the superstar’s surprise album “genius, really brilliant,” and expressed approval of Miley Cyrus, who had a verygood time at Spears’ Las Vegas residency kick-off.
“She’s cool, she’s fun to be around,” says the performer. “You know, she’s got really good energy.”
But despite all these talented artists, Spears laments the state of the music industry, which has been reinvented with the rise of digital technologies.
“We’re too smart for our own good,” she declares.
Spears explains, “We’re at the point where the simplicity of buying a CD and the specialness has gone. I think it’s a shame. The whole process of buying a record was so special.”
